2013 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse - 2012 Geneva Auto Show
When 1001 horsepower just isn’t enough.
In case you've forgotten your French 101, vitesse means speed or velocity. You might think Bugatti’s Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport with 1001 bhp and 922 lb.-ft. of torque would be enough to satisfy your need for vitesse.
Still, Bugatti has gone another step for the 2012 Geneva Auto Show. It has adapted the Veyron Super Sport coupe's drivetrain to the removable-top Grand Sport body style. To do this, engineers increase the size of the turbochargers and intercoolers to boost the 8.0-liter W-16 engine to 1200 bhp and 1106 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the drivetrain that propels the Super Sport to 268 mph, the current world record for a production car. The car will likely slingshot to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds. Now that's grand vitesse, although your production car will likely be limited to just 258 mph for tire reasons.

Not surprisingly, the chassis changes that go with the horsepower increase in the Super Sport are transferred to the Grand Sport Vitesse, which generally means firmer tuning. Also, Bugatti says the Grand Sport Vitesse has been "optically aligned to the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport."

No word yet on price, but given the $2.4 million cost of a Super Sport, one can only imagine.
